About Michele

When I attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, my new husband was a medical resident working 100+ hours a week (we were married 10 days after he graduated from Cornell University Medical College).

After graduating J-School, I took a job as a junior editor at American Health magazine (a Reader’s Digest publication) and went on to work as a medical reporter for many years. A decade ago, I launched A Bloc of Writers, a college essay tutoring business based in Greenwich, Conn. My team and I have reviewed thousands of college application essays and helped hundreds of students gain admittance to some of the country’s most competitive colleges.

Now, I have decided to combine my personal and professional connection with the medical field to help aspiring physicians navigate the complex and competitive medical school admissions process. If you hire me, you work directly with me — I am the only person on my team of five tutors who does this work — and I never farm out work to inexperienced tutors as many companies do.

My work has appeared in many national publications and websites, including articles on:

  • The doctor-patient relationship for Parents Magazine

  • Nervous system stimulants for U.S. News & World Report

  • Tobacco use in children for American Academy of Pediatrics News

  • Tick-borne diseases for USA Weekend

  • Heart health for Shape Magazine

  • The safety of medicines in pregnancy for Parenting

  • Moderate drinking for BusinessWeek (I was ahead of my time)

  • Medical drug trials in women for Elle

My book, What Makes Him Tic? A Memoir of Parenting a Child with Tourette Syndrome was published by Woodhall Press in 2024.

What Medical Students Say

“Michele was an absolutely invaluable source of editing support during my application cycle for medical school! She gave incredible suggestions at each turn and helped me perfect my personal statement and secondary essays. Importantly, Michele’s turnaround for edits was faster than any other writing advisor I’ve worked with, which was crucial during the high-stakes time crunch of secondary applications. She helped me communicate my personal experiences in the most eloquent way possible while also making sure they told the story of my preparedness for medical school. With Michele’s help, I submitted essays I was proud of and received eight interview invitations, including two invitations to top-10 medical schools. I can’t thank her enough and recommend her to anyone applying to medical school!”
